If you haven’t heard about Twitter then you must have been living in a cave! Anyone who’s trying to get ahead in a work at home opportunity will have undoubtedly heard about Twitter but are unsure of the benefits of the site.
It seems like everyone is using Twitter now and as it’s the 15th most visited site according to Alexa.com on the internet already, it will no doubt only grow.
So what’s it all about then? Twitter is a micro-blog site that allows people to send messages or tweet to each other and their followers around the world. The difference between other sites such as Facebook & MySpace is that you can only leave a message of 140 characters. This is very popular with celebrities and due to the shortness of the message means that on average twitter is visited 8-10 times a day, making it a very powerful tool to get your message across.
Twitter allows anyone to broadcast to the world, and more specifically their followers, updates on their business, website or life. I know from speaking with other people that you don’t really need to place too many tweets a day as people will get a bit tired of your ramblings, on the other hand I suppose if you are having a busy day then that would be acceptable but to tweet ‘I got up now’,’ I’ve had my breakfast’, ‘I’m going out now’ to me just seem pointless, and you’re more than likely to drive people away than have them follow you.
Once you have an understanding of how easy Twitter is to use you can begin to see the control of the micro blogging platform. One of the fundamental aspects of Twitter is to always interact. This can be you following someone else or getting people to follow you.
One very important rule that you should follow on Twitter is to not over sell your site as this is a real turn off for people. You should try to answer people’s questions, give them advice and generally get involved in discussions as that will lead to more awareness about you, which therefore leads to more awareness about your site and business. Growing your follower-base is essentially growing your customer base and to make Twitter an effective business tool you need to build the trust of your followers.
Simple things that you can do to make a big impact on your Twitter page is to have a clear, face on, relevant picture so that people can put a face to the name. There are options to have a twitter logo or something similar but people can’t connect with someone if they are unwilling to even show their face. Also you should try to have a name that people can relate to not just your website as people find this a real turn off. Try to put a little about you and what you are selling in the Bio is always a must as people will want to know about you and they will always check on sites such as Facebook & Twitter to see what you’re like and whether they can trust you.
It is very bewildering when you have to contemplate being on Twitter as if you’re like me then you’re not used to updating something so often but it a very valuable tool that can really help your business grow, whether you work at home, have a florists, garage etc I hope it will be a benefit to you.
